all good things must come to an end.
two weeks to the end of the choir season in college.
music-making has been such an enjoyable part of my college life, and unnoticably an integral part of my own life, as i learn how music-making has been such a joy in this mere one-half year in college. three words to summarise the extraordinary and pleasurable music-making experience here would be : passion, integrity and love, truly. it is how music-making is fuelled by ultmost passion by everyone in the choir, how mdm maximises the true integrity of the music through our voices, and how it is fuelled by everlasting friendships between singers and the relationships forged between the teachers, us and the music. it is through the many tireless hours, at times gruelling and painful, that progresses one's music-making abilities and sensitivity. these one-half years here in college, though at times pressing and painful, have taught me much as a young person, about decision-making and values that one should possess to go far in life (hopefully it works)

on another note, i'm really :) that i've finally got hold of one copy of lisa ono's "Dans Monile", her take on french jazz and standards that i've always wanted to grab, last night. :) more music to savour during this intensive and increasingly stressful year. :)))

hey kim would really wanna thank all the people who remembered her birthday!
choir, inez, yueyue :), megan, faith, kamyan, family, edna, ivan, lixue, ruoshan, liwen (smsing from australia!), yanting, evelyn, klara (called/smsed/posted! :)) ) , cheryl.. :)))) thanks everybody!

and i'm really glad we made it through the syf, so now it's all about the concert! :)
music-making has really been an extraordinary experience that is definitely worth all these time creating, and how so much effort, passion and perspiration every single being of the choir have put in into making such wonderful music, not for fame, honour and glory; but to bless, to express all the music has to offer, to God, and to everyone in the audience; how every performance is not just interpreting the music and expressing it, but also spelling out the composer's intent to the limits; and this experience can't be bought with money; but only with time, and bonds forged ; having wonderful friends you enjoy singing with; and wonderful music chosen for us to sing!

I can't believe this is ending in less than one month's time.
No. it's not ending; this is but another chapter - neverending :)

- 6) SYF IN 2 WEEKS! :///
- 7) one week after kranjichoirsyf!

this girl went to watch her beloved kranji choir :) for their syf this year and she thinks that they've been their best on stage, with so much more that were spilling over her initial expectations -- full sop voices, (which she wished was an accumulation from her "reign") great tone and pronounciation of text, obvious phrasing, .. & the list goes on! Though they did not get the "recognition" they wanted, it was obvious they were just getting better and better! :)))
Joined cheryl, munkit, cheehow, tzeyang, yanting and tianjun and ms ong :) for dinner @ limbang mac's (like the last time! omgzzz) and I really dont want to leave coz reunion with the bunch was undoubtedly fun, exchanging results and lots of things that are happening around us. :) JUST A PITY IT WAS A THURSDAY (school on friday! :(((((( ) so emily and I would have to leave earlier :( grrh.

anyway :)

lots of stuff were running through my mind today.
sometimes i felt that there were stuff that i shouldnt have had to be worrying about, because its stuff that i already should know by now. but there were also moments that were worth capturing and precious trains of thought that was filtered in the windows of my mind, such as a desire to pursue music at a higher level, as inspired by mdms ultmost passion and dedication to emphasize and demand full integrity of the music, in many many ways that were confirm worth admiring and learning from.

perhaps it was pre-existant complacency from relatively more productive and fruitful music-making on monday, but it could also be the tire mentally and physically, as one burdened by a lot of worries on upcoming events, tests and other challenges and obstacles; but everyone else living on this planet has his or her own worries too. maybe it was me not "mugging" my scores hard enough to know all the intricate details that others can easily identify without looking at the score, or that we are always consistently reliant on others whom we somehow believe to be more superior (in the skill) than us, and so we let our guards down. I do not think that that is the way to go. Someone else could be "better" than you at doing something because he/she had put in the effort to do so at that moment and moments, minutes, hours and days before; nobody gets a free lunch in this world and consistently practising and putting in real effort, in both the quantitative AND qualitative aspects, can then lead you to the path of success, on par with others, or even overtaking others. It is important for us to reflect, think through and consistently revise and practise the right stuff for us to actually progress, not just in acquiring a skill, but in life, as a person.

Hopefully, I can really really have this mindset! :D
Anyway. I just swam 20 LAPS TODAY :D

15feb: mdm(s) recital at the esplanade was undisputably wonderful : how mrs teoh's fingers were truly beautiful, the reasonance of each dissonant chord of Kabalevsky's Sonata N.o 3 Op.46, especially so- such accuracy, and hardwork were seen from her fingers sweeping across the octaves of the black/white keys, with so thorough emotion, and intent from the written score, (so much that I wanna learn that! :))) ) Mrs Tay sang with so much professionality, how she tackled the sacred arias in the first bit with so much courage and confidence in her really really beautiful voice (high, clear, reasonant.. the list just gets better and better!) and the later part of the recital with faith and her sisters, as well as with another Singaporean composer, Ms Rosita Ng, who composed and arranged many of my personal favourites with a distinctive musical style. :)

school has been still rather managable nowadays, though I struggle to finish my homework sometimes and sadly, still HEAVILY lack the discipline to sit down and dedicatedly do my long-due revision sessions for chinese, history, math, gp, economics. (well, that's EVERYTHING.) and TERMS IS IN 3 WEEKS! YAY~

ps: i want life= adagio NOW.

valentines' day 09 :)

haha. vday this year was spent a little different from last year : choir practice, welcome tea, KAP with megan, home, attempted to date my homework apparently to no avail, rewatched full house, eating watermelon.. and Miss Fung (a.k.a fatsam) WASNT HERE FOR PRACTICE TODAY. :( not that i miss you but that there'll definitely be much much more fun if she was there this morning!!

really thank all those who wished me happy valentines' and showered me with sweets, apples, flowers and PERSONALIZED NOTES OMG. :DDD i'm too lazy to show but i probably had like more than 10 sweets and 2 flowers from the choir boys. (guys, men. haha.) we reciprocated in the end okay. and i really wanted to play the L-O-V-E song on the piano this morning. just that i was a little late than usual today. GRRH. oh wells :)))

welcome tea was fine, and we finally got to meet our juniors, who were really really nice people as well, can't wait for wednesday! :))

and i particularly love this line from one of nodame's fanfic i found on http://community.livejournal.com/the_s_orchestra/

"The absence of a sound is never silence, it's the space between notes, where one can stop and listen to the audience listening to you, their everyday ordinary lives suspended for a moment, all because of you. It's not silence, it's breathing, it's the unique moment between heartbeats."

- reminds me of something about a rest on a musical score and what it meant ; how we were supposed to not break the line at that short little rest drawn on the musical score at that point of time, but to make the line even more flowy, how to prepare for the next musical phrase; which was nothing i had ever thought before before mdm explained it earlier this week (though i dont remember the exact words she said)
